Those that aren’t music aficionados may think of culinary delights when they hear the words “hot sugar”, but the reference isn’t towards food, it is music. Musician Nick Honig is known by his professional name, Hot Sugar. He is a native New Yorker and has been creating and producing music since 2011.
Hot Sugar Producing and Recording Other Musicians:
When he isn’t writing and producing his works, Hot Sugar is busy at work producing other groups’ music as well as directing videos. He has his own record label named Noise Collector.
Here are some of his impressive music credentials:

In 2013, he produced the song Barbie Jeep for the Kitty’s.
It has also directed numerous videos, including:

The Rise of Associative Music
Many that are familiar with Hot Sugar’s music may have a hard time putting it into any category. Some call it experimental, others have coined the phrase associative music to describe Hot Sugar and many other artists in the same genre.
Hot Sugar is an innovator as he uses non-traditional sounds, and places to perfect his techniques and create new sounds from traditional instruments. He has taken many of his creative leanings from other creative artists like the filmmaker John Waters, because his work has had such a profound influence on our current culture.
In his songs, and those he has produced for others, you may recognize the sound of pop rocks, and dogs barking. Often they are sounds that the listener may already have a connection to. He likes to use those sounds in new and creative ways.
Some of Hot Sugar’s music includes:
- In 2011, he debuted his EP Muscle Milk.
- In 2012, he released both Moon Money and Midi Murder EPs.
- His full-length album God’s Hand was released in 2016.
- In 2017, he released another studio album, The Melody of Dust.
Skilled Musician
Hot Sugar shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, more musicians are learning his craft and creating their own library of songs that fit into the associative music moniker. There seems to be exciting times ahead for Hot Sugar, and many are looking forward to learning what type of project he will be involved in next.
